SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Nerd Power, an Arizona-based provider of commercial and industrial renewable energy solutions, is proud to announce it has signed a solar lease agreement with Lucid Motors, the award-winning electric vehicle manufacturer that operates a major production facility in Arizona. Under the agreement, Nerd Power will design, finance, construct, and maintain a 12-megawatt solar energy system on site—including the construction of covered carport structures—enabling Lucid to generate its own clean power with no upfront capital investment.

This long-term agreement is projected to deliver millions in total savings while providing Lucid with immediate access to low-cost, renewable energy. Critically, there is no burden of a significant capital outlay or complex construction management; Nerd Power assumes responsibility for every phase, from engineering and permitting through construction and long-term operations. This allows Lucid to remain focused on its core mission: creating exceptional mobility experiences through innovation to drive the world forward.

The project's timing is critical. With Arizona's electrical grid under immense pressure from the state's rapid growth—driven by new residents, expanding data centers, and increased industrial activity—this agreement offers a vital solution. By generating a substantial portion of its energy on-site, Lucid not only improves its own bottom line but also directly benefits the surrounding community by alleviating strain on shared infrastructure and freeing up valuable grid capacity.

For Lucid, the decision carries a natural significance. Vehicles engineered to reduce emissions on the road will be produced using more clean, renewable energy — further extending the sustainability story from the factory floor to the finished product. It is a powerful alignment of mission and operations, and one that Nerd Power is honored to help make possible.

Environmental Impact

The environmental impact of the 12 MW installation is substantial. The system is projected to generate approximately 22.5 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity in its first year—enough to offset an estimated 13,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually. To put that in perspective, the carbon reduction is equivalent to taking roughly 3,000 passenger vehicles off the road each year. Over the projected 25-year life of the system, accounting for a standard 0.5% annual degradation in panel output, cumulative avoided emissions are estimated at approximately 310,000 metric tons of CO2. (Environmental impact estimates were calculated using the U.S. EPA Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator, based on eGRID2022 emission data for the AZNM subregion. The calculator is publicly available at epa.gov/energy/greenhouse-gas-equivalencies-calculator.)

Dual-Purpose Infrastructure

As part of the project, Nerd Power will construct covered solar carport structures across the facility’s parking areas. In addition to housing the solar array, these structures will provide additional shaded, weather-protected parking for employees—a tangible everyday benefit in Arizona’s climate. It is exactly the kind of dual-purpose infrastructure that defines Nerd Power’s approach: every element of a project should create real, measurable value.

Nerd Power’s solar lease model is designed to remove the barriers that have historically kept large-scale solar out of reach for many organizations. There is no large upfront expenditure, no need to navigate complex construction logistics, and no ongoing maintenance burden. Instead, the customer receives predictable energy pricing from day one, backed by a partner with deep expertise in both the financial structuring and the physical construction of commercial solar installations. For this project, Nerd Power is partnering with The Renu Group, who facilitated the relationship with Lucid and will serve as the Certified Installer and Project Manager for the installation.

This agreement represents a milestone for Nerd Power and reinforces the company’s growing role as a trusted partner for organizations looking to take control of their energy future.
